This is the scripting done for the most part on a fighting game :D If I finish this the stick figures will be replaced by real peoples, the menu will be improved, there will be a background, maybe some campaign, and the problems left in the scripting will be fixed. At the moment one of the players has less than 0 health the game does not end. The other problem is that you can still try to walk past the opponent if you try.

Give me props though I made a working AI in less than a day and the rest of the scripting was also done today. The animations were done yesterday.

EDIT: The game now ends when you hit 0 health and goes to a win or lose screen.

haha good job lol I have a Beta up for this now :) this was just to test the scripting on the game :O try and beat the game Beta :D (although its not that hard lol...)

Wow, this looks promising! Keep up the good work, just make the overall pace of the kick and punch more quicker.
I just started Flash a few days ago, and I can see this takes a lot of coding and stuff.

haha Thanks! If you look at my profile you can find the animations I have done for the game so far (they are much faster lol)and Im about to have a beta up for the game to test the gameplay :D I learned how to script AS2 by myself :P All you need is some tutorials and a way to think through problems and you should be able to figure it out. Good luck with your projects too :D

For the most part it gets easier the more you work with it lol...That project seemed like a decent project for someone starting out although I hope the sounds didnt give you too much of a problem >.<

No, putting the sound in wasn't too hard.
I can't get a decent way to make a movie clip play, on one click. And then go back to the default state.
All I could do is make the movie clip play while holding down the mouse button. u_u

Any ideas on where I can find tutorials for things like this?

or you might just try the part with "on(press)"...idk what code you already have so you might just need the on(press) part...

I know how to do it :) Make your movie clip and then double click on the movie clip and you will have another time line within the instance. All you have to do is put all your animations on that timeline. Make the first frame a keyframe with the normal picture. Once you have done that go back to the main timeline and make sure you have only one frame and a stop function. Then if you have AS2 put the code on down:
OnClipEvent(EnterFrame){
on(press){
gotoAndPlay("The frame you have the animation start on")
}
else{
gotoAndStop(1)
}

with that it will go to and play the frame you select. You need to make sure that you have separate objects for each button(where you will press to initiate the action) also be sure to have the code to go back to frame one on each keyframe so it doesnt play them all. Sorry it took so long to get back to you Ive been doing tons of stuff today. Hope it works! If it doesnt be sure to let me know so I can fix it or help you figure out why it isnt working.

The way I figure it is that if you are not actively playing the game I dont want the computer player to just kill you if you know what I mean but if you even move a little he will attack you...Im sure Ill change that later in the scripting when I get everything together though. Im hoping that I can also fix the hitboxes when I do the new animations but if the new animations dont fix that problem I have another tactic that makes the hitboxes at least a little more reasonable. Thanks for giving the problem report! Ill be sure to put these on the lsit of problems lol

Well, very nice attempt. Just wondering why you picked that control scheme. I do love the idea of using the direction button for the whole control.

What's the game play idea here exactly?

Oh, and I know this is a wip, but the block doesn't work. I still lose HP. And you're A.I. doesn't move till you do, which is kinda intimidating :P

haha This isnt actually an attempt, its more of a test for the scripting for when I make the real thing. The last fighting game I made the controls were everywhere so I figured that the game would need a more solid and easier set of controls. This is how I decided that the arrow keys would be the best controls for the game. Ill probably make the AWSD keys available in the game later (once I remember what the code for those keys is >.<. This is going to be a fighting game and as I said this is just the test for the scripting so the animations and many other things will be fixed when I make the legit thing. Although I do have a few scripting problems to fix >.<. The control for guard isnt actually for blocking. If you look at your character when you press the LEFT ARROW key, you will notice that you are gaining a little health. That is why I also said it is the recover key on the control menu. The AI not attacking is because I figured that if your not actively playing I dont want the AI to just attack you so its kind of a pause button in a sense but Im sure Ill change that later.

lol whats your fighting system? punchs vs kicks? high attacks vs low attacks? guarding vs throwing? etc...

um...I think it will depend on the character...I dont think there will be any throwing in the game though. Im pretty sure there will be high attacks, low attacks, sword attacks, punches, kicks, and guarding. If I script it right I should still be able to make guarding weak to low attacks and low attacks weak to high attacks and kicks. Then the punches will be mid center attacks with sword attacks depending on the character...I hope I can do this since I did script it a little differently than usual but I should be fine XD Hope that answers you question lol

Well as an advise, figure this part first. You don't want to design a complicated A.I. without know exactly knowing what he is capable of. Plus, you hit the risk of redoing the whole A.I. if you decided the fighting system later.

Each character will be specail, of course. What's the point of having more than one other wise :P But I was talking about the "general" features that every fighter have.

Seeing that you just started, you still got time to figure all that out.

haha This AI isnt complicated the way I did it...I kinda think I made the AI a little stupid the way I did it to be honest lol dont worry about :) I got that figured out. The problem is making sure that the damage is dealt correctly >.< when I add the extra attacks and need them to do damage accordingly but Im sure it will not be too much of a problem :D I think I explained the general features >.< Thanks and Ill try my best! XD

Its meant to be a forward combat since there is only one opponent there would be no need to look the other way so you just slowly walk backwards. :) The attacks are slow at the moment but once I do the legit animations I will be sure to make it more fast pace and more enjoyable to play. :D This is just a test to make sure I could get the scripting to all work which includes the AI player. haha and yes the walking animation I did was very simple but it works XD The damage spam? I think it will be fixed along with the slower gameplay once I switch out the animations so Im not too worried about that. I just needed to make sure I could get the scripting done for when I make the real thing. Hope to talk to more dhigo, its been a while since weve discussed animating and game creating XP

haha I want to do some more serious animations XD but for now Im just going to do the animations for this game and hopefully finally get at least one part of the game finished. Yeah Ive seen that youve really gotten into the stick animation stuff haha be sure to keep that up because you have some nice stuff. Although Ill be sure to wait for your next game too XD

You should probably practice drawing people so that you can animate them :O The human body is harder to draw than a stick figure if you know what I mean >.< but Im sure you can figure it out since you already have the animations for the stick figures figured out XD

If you look into my gallery there is another fighting game...Its not as good as this one in my opinion but I actually do have them jump and they have a crouch attack XP I warn you that if you try to play it it is really glitchy and the controls are terrible D:. Its a 2 player game instead of 1 player too...so if you want to play it you have to do it with someone else :P

You weren't kidding :XD: But it has its cool points, like the health bar depletes as you do more damage and it doesn't go into negative numbers :D

I'm sure you'll be able to make a really cool full fighting game soon ;)

haha Thanks :D By the way I fixed the scripting for this one XP now it ends when you get to 0 health and it goes to a screen that says you win or that you lose XD Im working on the animations for characters at the moment and it is looking like I will have people pay points to have their OCs in the fighting game XD I think I figured out the different stats for characters too :)

Drawing and animation can be a lot of work sometimes, but its worth it :)
The one game I made took me about a year to do. It's not professionally scripted but I put most of my time and effort into designing/drawing/animating almost 20 characters and 3 full stages. It was the most work Ive done on a game :phew:
